How to Maintain Butcher Block Counters

Butcher block counters are a beautiful and practical addition to any kitchen. They are durable and easy to care for, but they do require some basic maintenance to keep them looking their best.

Here are a few tips for maintaining your butcher block counters:

Wipe up spills immediately: Butcher block is porous, so it can absorb spills if they are not wiped up quickly. Be sure to clean up any spills right away, using a damp cloth or sponge.

Avoid harsh cleaners: Harsh cleaners can damage the finish of your butcher block counters. Stick to mild, soap-based cleaners for day-to-day cleaning.

Seal the counters regularly: To protect your butcher block counters from stains and water damage, seal them with a food-safe sealer at least once a year.

Re-oil as needed: Over time, the oil in your butcher block counters will start to dissipate. When the counters start to look dry or dull, it's time to re-oil them. Use a food-safe mineral oil and apply it liberally to the surface of the counters. Allow the oil to soak in for at least 30 minutes before wiping off any excess.
